When Jim travelled though Yugoslavia in the 80s, every little town had a memorial to WWII fighters. That was when Tito was in power. He gained power for his communist party by fighting a guerrilla war against the Nazis.
Those memorials are gone now. Now victims of the 1992-1995 wars in the Balkans.
